As Mobile World Congress winds down in Barcelona, we've wrapped up more than 200 customer meetings and rubbed shoulders with a wide array of partners, industry analysts and news media. Mike Z met personally with customers across Europe, the Middle East, Israel, Australia, Africa, Mexico and Nortel America.
Our message at the show was frank and straight-forward - we're working through big challenges, but Nortel is open for business and committed to driving innovation.
We had about 20 meetings with technology analysts like Gartner, IDC, Ovum, Current Analysis, Yankee Group and Infonetics. And, we met with more than 30 media outlets, including reporters covering Europe, Australia, Asia and North America - even Macedonia.
Perhaps the biggest news at the show was Verizon's selection of LTE network vendors. The fact that Nortel was not selected was also highly publicized. Some are calling this a big blow to Nortel's LTE business, but fact remains we just signed one of the industry's first LTE contracts in Japan, and we are widely regarded as a leader in industry trials. For another view on this, check out "Nortel Still Hanging In," a report issued today from the Yankee Group.
The best news is that our booth was busy throughout the show - often times packed tighter than our competitors (click for recaps on Day 1, Day 2 and demo videos). And customers are telling us that our customer service remains true - better year-over-year than before the filing.
So, after a busy week, we say adios to Barcelona. Thank goodness our engineers got out of Spain before the running of the bulls.
